Happy New Year! 2019 is a landmark year here at Tryon Palace; it marks 60 years since Tryon Palace was opened to the public as a museum, and 60 years of the staff, volunteers, Foundation members, and supporters working to always make the Palace a welcoming spot for all of New Bern, North Carolina, and the nation. Each year, the staff works tirelessly to provide programs, lectures, and events to keep you all coming back and engaged in our great historic site.

This year, we are changing up a few standards, and introducing new programming to help make 2019 a great one for all our visitors. Here are a few highlights that may help you plan your year! Beginning in January, we will be offering two different “Discovering Tryon Palace: Outlander” tours, keeping our “Outlander” fans happy and excited to return. In February, we are launching our “First Friday” lecture series, where we will host lectures at 2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. These lectures will help you learn more about history related to our site and region. In March, we will be hosting our first Natural History Day (March 23), where you can learn a little more about the natural history of our area. In June, we will be honoring the Year of the Woman by opening a new exhibit in our Duffy Gallery at the North Carolina History Center entitled “Women of New Bern.” These are just a few new programs and events we are hard at work planning; old standards like WinterFeast (Jan. 25), Free Day (Feb. 9), Garden Lovers’ Weekends (April 12-14 and Oct. 11-13), The Glorious Fourth (July 4), the Live & Local Beer Festival (Aug. 24), Lanterns on the Lawn Family Campout (Sept. 21), and our Candlelight Christmas Celebration (Dec. 14 & 21) are all on our calendar.
