Dear Henrietta,

I moved to New Bern in the summer of 2025 from Northern Minnesota because I wanted to escape the snow forever—and low and behold, we’ve already had a huge snow storm here since the start of 2026!  What in the world is going on?  Should I pack up and move to Florida?

Signed,

Blustery Billy

Dear Blustery Billy,

Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans—they often go wrong!

I understand that you expected gentle weather when you moved to North Carolina, and in general New Bern enjoys temperatures that are quite mild compared to Minnesota!  But keep in mind the amount of snow that we’ve gotten in 2026 is very unusual, in fact, the last storm that bought this much snow to New Bern was in 1989!

So the way that I see it, you have a couple of choices:

• Option #1:  Give up, pack up and get the heck out of here. God knows we have plenty of Northerners here already. I imagine you haven’t even unpacked all your boxes.

• Option #2:  Just relax.  Stay in idyllic New Bern.  If you dislike the snow that much, close all your curtains and watch the entire Game of Thrones series until it all melts away.

So there you are!  Problem solved. I hope this helps!

Love,

Henrietta
