Christmas is coming—so are you ready to ROCK? Then come see the popular local band, Boomerang, for “A Very BOOMy Christmas” at the Athens Theatre on Pollock Street in New Bern on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 7:30PM. Tickets are currently available on the New Bern Civic Theatre website.
“This show came about after the success we had with our first theatrical concert in October of 2022, BoomerMANIA. We were so humbled by the turnout and the happiness we spread to the community of New Bern after that debut performance,” says guitarist Tom Caruso. “A couple of months later, after watching the video of the show, my brother suggested that we do something similar but as a Christmas show! By February of 2023, we were frantically at work to have a show ready by that December. We debuted at the RiverTowne Players Theatre in New Bern. Again, we enjoyed a fantastic response and accolades.”
Boomerang performs a variety of live performances, but their theatrical performances are unique. While there is a live concert happening on stage, an accompanying movie is going on, simultaneously, behind the band. The movie is crafted and timed to be pertinent to the music being performed at the moment, live on stage. It’s a multi-media experience that gives the audience an additional dimension of entertainment.
“BoomerMANIA takes the audience through Rock ‘N Roll’s iconic decades…the 60s, the 70s and the 80s. The performances pay tribute to 29 of the most influential musical artists of those times,” says Tom. “With the Christmas show, the audience is taken on a nostalgic and sometimes comical journey through the Christmases of the American 20th century and of course traditional Christmases from yesteryear as well. Just like with BoomerMANIA, A Very BOOMy Christmas is a light-hearted, comedic production that gets the audience singing along with all the familiar favorites. We’ve seen the audiences laugh, sing, dance and cry during the show…plus that fun video is going on at the same time!”
The members of Boomerang, Tom Caruso, Mike Flynn and Epy Scrivano, met and became friends after each of them moved to New Bern. Since they all had a similar passion for music, and are all originally from Long Island, New York, they developed a bond and started playing together.
“We’ve primarily been a cover band for the past nearly five years, and we put a lot of thought and planning into our setlists,” says Tom. “We started out focusing on classics and variety, but over the past couple of years we developed themed setlists of particular eras, artists, or genres.”
Boomerang is now in their next evolution, and is releasing their first original album, HOME AT LAST, which is a song they developed together in honor of the wonderful new home they’ve all found living here in New Bern. The other songs on the album are a combination of solo works and collaborations that recorded to reflect some of the different music styles the band members grew up with. All of the band members are guitarists, but in addition, Tom plays keyboards, Mike supplies bass lines as needed and Epy adds live percussion.
“Our first single from the album, along with the music video we created for it, dropped October 25th. We plan to release a second single and video a little later, and the full album in January. In terms of sound, fans can expect a little bit of everything,” says Tom. “But what we hope to convey most is that aging is not a barrier to living life to the fullest or a reason to settle for memories. There are always new dreams to dream; new adventures to be had; new hills to climb; and new songs to sing. Music, for us, is a youthful, joyful, universal language that we get to share with people everywhere and celebrate together in the same way it invigorates us.”
