I just found a new boyfriend and we are already arguing over where we are going to spend the Christmas holiday. We live in New Bern, and honestly, I would just like to have our first holiday here, but he wants to go home. His family is in Texas and mine is in Vermont. If we were going to leave, I’d rather be with my family up north, but he doesn’t want to deal with the snow and I don’t want to deal with his crazy family. We’ve only been out of college for a year, we are both totally broke and I just don’t want to spend the money on the flight when I’m only working as a waitress. What do I do?
Signed,
Christmas Crush
Dear Christmas Crush,
Oh, you darling little Gen Z. Kiss, kiss, kiss.
Let’s talk about what you can do for FREE!
• Let’s Zoom! Set up a schedule with each of your families for Christmas day. Make sure to give yourself enough time (one in the morning, one in the afternoon or evening, or maybe even Christmas Eve depending on your holiday traditions).
• Before your Zoom meetings, think about sharing some photos of you and your beau so they get a feel for the two of you together.
• Mix up some eggnog and toast the family!
• Rehearse a song and sing on the call!
Everyone will love it, or if you’re really lucky, his family won’t invite you next year because they think you’re a total nut.
So there you are! Problem solved. I hope this helps, and have a Merry Christmas!
Enjoy your holiday!
Love,
Henrietta
