The 2025 New Bern Cup, the annual golf tournament between teams from six area clubs, will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Harbour Pointe Golf Club. More than just a friendly golf competition, the New Bern Cup has quickly become one of the community’s most anticipated charitable events — combining good sportsmanship, local pride, and a collective effort to support a deserving nonprofit.

The tournament was the brainchild of Carolina Colours resident Peter Eckle, who envisioned a one-day, handicapped stroke play event that would bring together golfers from across the region for a greater cause. Each of the six area golf clubs — Carolina Colours, Emerald, Harbour Pointe, New Bern Country Club, Taberna Country Club, and River Bend — fields a team of one PGA pro, eight men, and four women. At the end of the day, the lowest total net score for 10 of the 13 team players determines who takes home the trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

The New Bern Cup’s growing success has been made possible by strong community support, including its enthusiastic title sponsor, Genesis of New Bern, led by Grant Loftin. The dealership has generously added excitement to the event each year with a hole-in-one prize — a brand-new Genesis GV70. New Bern Mayor Jeffrey Odham will once again be on hand to present the trophy and shared, “While there’s no telling which club will win the Cup in 2025, the real winner will be Bike Box Project for all the generosity bestowed as a result of the tournament.”

This year’s beneficiary, the Bike Box Project, improves the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease through non-contact fitness classes focused on mobility, coordination, flexibility, and voice projection. Bethany Richards, Executive Director, shared, “We are excited and appreciative of all the efforts from the golf clubs, Genesis of New Bern, the players, the organizers, and local businesses for their support.”

A highlight of this year’s event is the “Experience New Bern Raffle,” which is open to the entire community. Raffle prizes include dining certificates, boutique gift baskets, golf packages, and one-of-a-kind local experiences donated by generous area businesses. Anyone can participate, and tickets are available for purchase at https://bikeboxproject.betterworld.org. All proceeds from the raffle directly support Bike Box Project’s programs for Parkinson’s patients in Eastern North Carolina.

Events like the New Bern Cup continue to reflect what makes New Bern such a special community — neighbors coming together to give back, celebrate local traditions, and support organizations making a meaningful difference.
