Because Great Communities Don’t Just Happen

If you love the beauty and sense of place that historic buildings and historic districts create for New Bern, then we invite you to be part of saying a big community “thank you” to those who deserve special recognition.

Until June 29th, you may nominate people or projects for our 2018 Historic Preservation Design Awards. It’s a simple and fun process where you pick one or more of seven categories and then tell us why a project or person deserves the award. Last year we presented our first two awards. Our lifetime achievement award went to Ben Parrish and Newsom Williams for their preservation work saving and rehabilitating dozens of homes that have restored vibrancy to our downtown neighborhoods. The stewardship award went to Tim Thompson for his work that led to new guidelines for doing development and renovations in the historic districts.

This is our first full year of presenting these awards and we encourage your nominations. Nomination forms are available on our website, www.newbernpf.org or come by our office to pick one up. The award categories below are fully explained on our website:

Projects

   • Restoration

   • Rehabilitation/Adaptive Reuse

   • New Construction within a Historic

     District or Neighborhood

Persons or Organizations

   • Craftsmanship

   • Advocacy, Research, and/or Education

   • Stewardship

   • Lifetime Achievement

This is your opportunity to tell our awards jury of professionals and citizens who deserves a big thank you for their contribution to historic preservation!
