Pet: Scottie

Owner: Anne & Wally Gehlsen

Scottie is a three year old Basset Hound, lovingly owned by Anne and Wally Gehlsen.

The Ghelsen’s were able to adopt Scottie from Carolina Basset Hound Rescue.

“Scottie came to us in February 2024, at just under 2 years old. After having to leave his original home, he had been living in foster care for a time, and things were not working out. We decided we had the time and space to give to Scottie and work with any behavioral issues he might have,” says Anne. “He came all the way from Hilton Head, SC, and was flown to New Bern Airport by a pilot who volunteers his time and plane for many great causes. Scottie showed his mischievous side on the way over by letting himself out of his crate and trying to ride shotgun on the airplane. He ended up riding with his head between the seats, looking over the pilot’s shoulder.”

Scottie loves playing with his Basset Hound brother, Bennie, wresting with his Dad Wally, and getting belly rubs.  He likes chewing up today and bones, eating homemade food and banana chips and going on long walks to meet up with other dogs in the neighborhood.

“Scottie is special because he senses when we need extra care and love,” says Wally.  “He is also a champion napper.”

The Ghelsen’s recently retired and moved to New Bern from Tarpon Springs, Florida in 2021, and enjoy being here with their two dogs and two cats.
