The New Bern Breakfast Rotary Club will host its annual BSH Oktoberfest fundraiser on Saturday, September 26, at the Riverfront Convention Center of Craven County, 203 S. Front Street. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., food service begins at 5:30 p.m., and the celebration continues until 9:30 p.m.
Inspired by Germany’s late-September Oktoberfest tradition, the event has become a signature New Bern Breakfast Rotary fundraiser. Proceeds support local charitable projects, including Kicks-For-Kids, which has provided thousands of pairs of shoes to Craven County elementary and middle school students since the inception of this program in 1999. The club also awards $7,000 in scholarships annually and supports several local nonprofits and community events.
The Flame will cater a traditional German-style meal featuring bratwurst, chicken schnitzel, sauerkraut, and German potato salad. Large pretzels will be sold to benefit local high school Rotary Interact Club students, and Brewery 99 will offer beer selections, including a special brew. Entertainment will feature The Little German Band and Dancers from Raleigh, who will perform in authentic costumes and lead crowd favorites such as the German Drinking Song and popular Chicken Dance.
Guests can also compete in the men’s and women’s Stein Holding Contest, certified by the U.S. National Stein Holding Association. Each winner receives $100 and qualifies to compete at the state and national levels. New additions this year include a Brewery 99 Beer Flight Tasting, face painting for children and adults, and a three-tiered cash raffle.
Event Only Tickets include admission to the party, music, dancing, and activities. Tickets are $20 for adults, or $15 in advance; $15 for active military guests; and $10 for children ages 6–12, with younger children admitted free. A second type of ticket includes both Entry & Meal buffet at $40 for adults and $20 for children. Advance purchase of Entry & Meal tickets is recommended because only a limited number of Meal tickets will be available at the event. The online option allows for purchasing extra Beer/Wine tickets as well as other event items.
