Owners:  Dave and Deborah Mahoney

Pet:  Lady Liberty “Libby”

Lady Liberty, known as Libby, was born on the Fourth of July.  She is eleven years old, and although she looks a bit like a small Golden Retriever, her breed is actually a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, frequently called a “Duck Dog” or “River Dog.”

This special breed has a history reaching back to the 17th century in Nova Scotia, and they are known for their ability to “entice” or “toll” other animals in assistance to duck hunters.

Dave and Deborah adopted Libby when she three months old from Arkansas as a rescue. Her hunting skills are only surpassed by her rather peculiar ability to walk on her hind legs with front legs straight down just like a person!

Libby is full of fun, she likes to show off her talents by taking two pet toys together and work them around an area. She enjoys fetching sticks or a frisbee, but her favorite pastime is finding geckos.

She also enjoys walks in the delightful Riverside neighborhood or downtown New Bern, as well as car rides in the convertible—she sits up straight like a queen.

Her devotion and loyalty to her pet parents Dave and Deborah comes naturally and she is dearly loved in return.
