Munky just celebrated his 20th birthday! This spirited orange tabby was born in Ft. Lauderdale in 2003, when he was found as a frightened lone kitten off the Florida Turnpike. Munky found love and safety in his new home in Miami where he grew up basking in sunshine and chasing lizards. He made the big move to New Bern with his younger feline siblings Rugby, Morpheus and Neo in 2020.

Munky got his name by being a fearless, adventurous climber.  As a kitten he climbed trees, bookshelves and any high (and sometimes treacherous) place that enticed him.  Munky may be a senior cat, but he still has a frisky attitude. He climbs and jumps but to lower places now, and burrows under warm fleece blankets for his daily catnaps – and he and his sister Rugby love catnip on Friday nights!

Munky is steadfast in his daily routine.  Although Munky is anything but cliché, he really enjoys a saucer of milk at breakfast. After breakfast he goes on kitty patrol, checking every room in the house while he meows an “all clear”.  If he hears an unfamiliar noise or sees a stranger, he will scurry away to safety in a leopard crawl.

Munky was noticeably sad when his little brother Morpheus passed over the rainbow bridge shortly after moving to New Bern.  When his 15-year old brother Neo became sick recently, Munky never left his side.  Munky has boundless love.  He is an olympic-grade snuggler and his hearty purring resonates through the entire house.

His mom and dad say:

“Munky truly is the king of our pride. Munky makes us laugh and brings us so much joy.  It’s just Munky and Rugby now, but we enjoy every special moment with our senior cat-izens.”

Munky sits on mom’s lap while she has morning coffee; he has a special bond with dad and follows him wherever he goes, whether in the house or out in the yard.  With all the money Munky’s parents spend on cat lasers, squeaky toys and feathery wands, Munky loves shipping boxes and grocery bags and never misses an opportunity to lay on a cashmere sweater laid out for winter dressing.
