Shopaholic

I recently graduated from college and work as a content creator for social media and marketing.  However, the pay isn’t very good, and to make matters worse, I just can’t stop shopping online.  Whenever I feel sad, I buy a new dress, or a pair of shoes, but by the time they arrive I feel guilty, so I just return them.  At the end of the month, I’m usually down to only a hundred dollars in my checking account.  How do I stop this addiction?

Dear Shopaholic,

I understand that retail therapy can feel like a temporary pick-me-up, but not at the sake of your financial security.

Since you work all day online, it’s important to take time away from the screen and get out of the house.  Change up your patterns at the end of the day.  For example, go take a walk around your neighborhood, or visit a park, or drive down to the beach.  Stepping away and connecting with nature will help reset your body and mind, and should reduce your stress.

I hope this helps, and remember:  change can bring opportunity.

Love,
Henrietta
