Dogleg Disturbance

Dear Henrietta,

I live on the golf course, and now that the spring weather is getting warmer, the golfers are all coming out to play.  It’s nice to look out my window and watch them.  However, last week a friend came to visit me at my house and left my side gate open.  My German Shepherd got out and ran over to the green.  A foursome of men were just getting ready to putt, but my dog grabbed all their golf balls and wouldn’t give them back!  They got all upset and called the police!  Can you imagine?  It’s just a little ball.  Well, now my dog has become obsessed and keeps managing to sneak out and steal more balls.  What do I do?  The golf balls make him so happy but the golfers are terrorized.

Signed,

Dogleg Disturbance

Dear Dogleg Disturbance,

As an animal lover, I think your dog has every right to be outside playing with any ball that pleases him.  So just go ahead and let him have a good time!  His doggie life is short. Carpe Diem!

What you need to do is get the golfers in on the challenge so it becomes a part of the game instead of a threat.  Tie a bag of doggie treats to the flagstick (or pin) so the golfers have something to offer your furry friend.  They can use it as a negotiation tool as they try to get their ball back.

What fun everyone will have!  And it will be a GREAT golf story that they can share when they get back to the clubhouse.

Oh, what a delight!  Enjoy watching them frolic!

So there you are!  Problem solved. I hope this helps, and Happy Spring!

Love,

Henrietta
