    September 28th • 6-10pm

    North Carolina History Center

    529 S. Front St.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the award winning Harbour Towne Fest Band, a full size Oktoberfest ensemble. Attendees will have the opportunity to compete for bragging rights and a prize in the traditional Oktoberfest “Masskrugstemmen,” a contest of strength and determination ($10 entry fee.) If you’ve never had an authentic German meal or seen an authentic German ensemble or a “strong-man” competition, these are well worth the price of admission. You will have a blast!

Oktoberfest proceeds support the Club’s “Kicks for Kids” shoe program providing for the purchase of over 300 pairs of shoes for elementary school children in Craven County.  Each year, school counselors identify those youth most in need and provide transportation to Coastal Sole where they pick out a brand new, properly fitted pair of shoes. “What did we all do this morning when we selected our shoes to wear for the day?” asked the program’s organizer and Rotarian, Tom Gingrich. “We looked at a closet full of shoes, picked a pair that matched our outfit most likely or a pair that we hadn’t worn in the past week. Most of these kids don’t have that luxury. They’re going to wear the same pair of shoes day after day whether there are holes in them or whether they fit or not.”  Rotary recognized the critical need of some children lacking basic shoes. This program goes a long way towards building self-esteem, especially for kids who are bullied or made fun of just because they don’t have proper footwear.

New Bern Breakfast Rotary Club co-sponsors local Interact Clubs, awards several scholarships each year to local teens who are continuing their education, prepares and serves meals at Religious Community Services every month, cleans up a section of Hwy 70 off Glenburnie Road under the Adopt a Highway program and a number of other beneficial services for the community. The Club invites all those interested in learning more about Rotary to join them for breakfast at Famous Restaurant, 2210 Neuse Blvd. every Thursday 7:30–8:30am.

Tickets $20 in advance, $25 day of event and $20 for active military, includes traditional style German fare & soda or water. Kid’s Meal: 5 & under free and ages 6-12, $5. A beer selection, wine, pretzels & deserts are available for purchase.  Proof of age required to purchase & consume beer & wine.
